(recently given a new name by taxonomists: Fargesia apicirubens) This compact bamboo is similar to F. murieliae. Many clones abound as seed was distributed 25 years ago. Is not fully hardy and to my opinion not the prettiest bamboo, either.

This bamboo was introduced to Europe as seedlings, some forms have red culms especially on sandy soil. At least 12 numbered clones exist. Nr. 1 grows very compact and is extremely suited to small gardens. Stands a sunny spot well, with better colouration of the culms. 'Genf' is a very good selection also.

A bamboo with paper-like white sheathblades and shining, olive-green leaves and culms. The shoots which appear early have to be protected agains late frosts.
