A robust growing bamboo, suited to large gardens. A giant from the cool mountain climate of Central China. Grows upright with large leaves. It is very hardy but the leaves are susceptible to combinations of hard wind, sun and frost. The roots can reach a depth of 100cm (40") - you have been warned! Excellent for bamboo-culmproduction allthough the culms zigzag slightly..

Lower form of B. fargesii, nice bamboo with dense dark green foliage. More evergreen than the similar Pseudosasa too. Very vigourous! Root barrier is necessary to control this runner.
